Bethel Hills Community was recently the recipient of Gateway Fiber’s Gateway Gifts Competition to receive a portion of Missouri and Minnesota sales that occurred during the month of December.
Organizations were prompted by Gateway Fiber’s Facebook page to enter the competition. Gateway customers were encouraged to vote for the organization of their choice.
Dennis Kramme, Development Director for Bethel Hills, is always on the lookout for fundraising opportunities and noticed the opportunity with Gateway. He entered the competition and was recently notified that Bethel was chosen.
On Tuesday, Jan. 14, Gateway representatives traveled to Bethel Hills to hand them a check for $13,320. They were shown a video presentation and a tour of the community. More importantly, ongoing discussions continued about getting fiber service to the community.
David Workman, Gateway’s public relations and communications manager, said Gateway has received approval to move forward with fiber installation at Bethel, but no projected dates have been announced.
“The biggest obstacle is the bridge,” said Workman, “but we intend to figure out how to make it work.”
Billie Kramme, president of the board of directors, said Bethel continues to receive many blessings. In the four years it has existed, they have been able to renovate every building and are debt free. She credits the generosity of area donors, volunteers and entities like Gateway for helping to move forward with the dream of a special community for people of all abilities.
“There’s no way we could be here without the Lord intervening,” she said. “I believe we have received nearly $300,000 worth of savings per house from our volunteers and donors. This is definitely a community project.”
Bethel Hills Community is located in Dutzow. The faith-based community provides affordable housing for people with or without disabilities. Residents support each other in a neighborhood where they live, work and worship together.
