How long have you been playing football and basketball?
“Since I was about four or five, it’s a childhood thing. I’ve been playing both of them with my brother.”
How long have you run track?
“I’ve been running since seventh grade. I do mostly jumping.”
What interests you in potentially playing volleyball this spring?
“I think it’s more of a friend thing. All my friends are doing it and it’s a new thing.”
What made you decide to come back and play football this year?
“I had a lot of friends on the football team that were seniors, so knowing it was their last year I came back.”
When you came back this year, did it take you a bit to get back in the groove of things or did it all come back to you at once?
“It took about two or three games to get to where I was before.”
What goals do you have for yourself this basketball season?
“One of my goals is to hopefully average about 15 points and hopefully win another district championship for the school.”
What are your career goals?
“I’d definitely like to hit 1,000 points.”
Do you want to play in college?
“Yeah, that is what I am hoping for. Focusing on basketball and hopefully take off some of the pay for college.”
What’s your go-to shot?
“I would probably say a jab three. It’s like a three-point shot.”
What’s your favorite dribble move?
“Probably between the legs crossover.”
Do you have a pregame routine?
“I listen to music right before the game and then I pray on the bench.”
Do you have any superstitions?
“Yeah, my leggings. I like to wear them on my right leg.”
As an upperclassmen this year, do you feel like you have taken on more of a leadership role?
“Yeah, I think I definitely have. It’s more personal than basketball and it’s more than just being a leader. It’s teaching me more life lessons than just how to be a leader in basketball.”
What life lessons have you learned?
“No matter how the game is going or how life’s going, you still got more time and if you don’t, it’s more of a learning lesson than it is more of a loss on yourself.”
Is there any athlete’s playing style you take inspiration from?
“I would say Kyrie Irving since he’s not a huge guard or a guy that can jump, he takes handles more seriously and his shots.”
Is there something or someone that motivates you before or during a game?
“Yeah, my dad’s talking to me throughout the whole game on the sidelines. He motivates me during the game and talks to me after too.”
How do you get over a tough loss?
“I like to forget about it, but I still go back and watch film. The way I think about it is there’s still more games ahead and this isn’t the most vital part of the season.”
Do you have a favorite sports memory?
“In like fifth grade, I had a buzzer beater in Fieldhouse at the middle school.”
How do you navigate school and a social life on top of being a three-sport athlete?
“It’s definitely difficult because even out of season, I still have stuff to do. With school, I try to get it done as quickly as I can when I'm there. With my social life it’s really just sports. All my friends I’ve made, most of them, have been through there so I see them when I’m at practice. But we also hangout outside when we don’t have practice.”
