With the deadline only days away, the number of personal property assessment statements that have been returned to the Warren County assessor’s office is lower than usual.Assessor Wendy Nordwald said there were still 7,000 inactive (accounts) as of Monday. Normally second notices are mailed to between 3,000 to 4,000 property owners. The deadline to submit the information is Tuesday, March 1, to avoid a penalty. The statements, which must be returned annually, list all personal property owned as of Jan. 1, such as vehicles, recreational vehicles, boats, ATVs, farm machinery and mobile homes. The form is used by the assessor to determine the taxable value of a person’s personal property.Taxpayers have three options to return the statements, Nordwald noted. The forms can be dropped off or mailed to the assessor’s office, located at 101 Mockingbird Lane, Suite 204, Warrenton, MO 63383. An online option also is available. Owners can access the electronic filing system at warren.missouriassessors.com or find a link at the assessor’s website at warrencoassessor.comTaxpayers can log into the new online system using their account number and pin number, both located on the assessment form.Nordwald said 2,021 taxpayers have used the online option so far this year compared to 2,043 in 2015.For information, contact the assessor’s office at 636-456-8885.Warren County Administration Building
