First-year Wright City volleyball Head Coach Amy Geurin is ready to put her mark on the program.
Geurin, a graduate of Parkway West, spent the last six years at School of the Osage near the Lake of the Ozarks.
“We’re starting with the basics and learning all the correct forms, but they are picking it up very easily and they have improved a lot since the first day,” Geurin said before a recent practice.
The Wildcats participated in a jamboree at Warrenton Tuesday and open their season next Tuesday at O’Fallon Christian.
They play three games in three days and host Orchard Farm Wednesday in their home opener.
Geurin said she was excited for Tuesday’s jamboree.
“I really want to see who my best serve-receive passers are and how the girls like playing with each other,” she said. “I want to move girls around and see how we fit on the court.”
The Wildcats started off hot last season, winning their first five matches.
They lost their district opener to Montgomery County in three sets.
“I know a little bit about last year’s team, but when I got here I really wanted to take it as a new team with new traditions,” Geurin said. “We want to be really team-oriented, and I want seniors and freshmen to be treated the same.”
