Agape collected over 700 pounds of food April 25 at its first Operation Orange Bag collection day.“Our first collection day was a huge success!” said Michelle Bernth, Agape executive director. “We are so happy to see so much food coming in to fill our food pantry shelves.”Operation Orange Bag is a new way for people to get involved with collecting food through Agape. Neighborhood captains recruit and support a team of food donors. In turn, the food donors keep a resusable orange bag in their home and place at least one food item in it per week. Every other month the neighborhood captains will collect the bags and deliver them to Agape. All food collected through Operation Orange Bag goes to Agape’s two food pantries, located in Warrenton and Wright City. Each month, Agape feeds more than 1,200 people who are facing food insecurity.“We invite everyone to join Operation Orange Bag,” said Bernth. “This type of program is changing the face of food pantries and we are so excited to be the organization pioneering this program in our area.”To join Operation Orange Bag as a neighborhood captain or food donor, visit www.agapemo.org or call 636-456-4645. The next Operation Orange Bag collection day is June 27, from 9 a.m. to noon.
