One of the issues in this presidential election is abortion, which is of concern to many people, including Missourian readers in this area. For some reason this issue has taken somewhat of a backseat in discussions by candidates. The Associated Press did examine the issue and provided a somewhat clear picture of where the candidates stand.Democrat Hillary Clinton supports access to abortion and strongly defends Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of abortions in the country.Republican Donald Trump, who in the past was a supporter of abortion rights, now says he is not. Anti-abortion leaders, who initially were wary of Trump, now support him because of his pledge to nominate Supreme Court justices who are open to curtailing abortions and his choice of Mike Pence, who is a staunch abortion foe, as his running mate. The fear is that if Clinton is elected she will appoint Supreme Court justices who are very liberal and will continue the present policy of abortions. There is a problem. Many of the anti-abortion people don’t like Trump. This puts those voters in a tough position. In the end, they probably will vote for Trump.
