Before entering her senior season, Paige Kirn set a lofty goal to reach 75 career goals.
It did not take long for the Wildcat to get there as she hit that mark in a 8-0 win over Valley Park on April 16.
With that milestone behind her, Kirn has raised the bar. Now, her sights are set on an even more ambitious target: 100 career goals.
“It was super exciting,” Kirn said when asked about scoring her 75th goal. “Lily Brown was able to get a goal that game and it was exciting to celebrate together since she’s usually a wingback. I also think Ada (Ferrell) had the assist, so it was great to finish for my team and hit that accomplishment.”
Kirn began the season with 53 career goals after a dominant junior year in which she scored 33. While 75 initially felt like a reasonable goal, her early-season form quickly made her realize she could aim higher.
“Thinking back on it, we were talking if I should push for 75 or 100, and I felt that 100 was overshooting, but now, it’s kind of the new goal,” Kirn said. “I think throughout the season, we realized I was able to push myself further.”
As of April 23, Kirn sits at 81 career goals with at least seven regular season games remaining. Triple digits are no longer a dream — they’re within striking distance.
“It’s definitely a possibility, but it might be a little hard,” Kirn said.
While Kirn may be the one scoring, she’s quick to credit her coaches and teammates.
“They’ve been a big supporter for me throughout all four years, but especially last year and this year. They have pushed me and helped me with motivation and talks,” Kirn said. “There was a game a few weeks ago where I struggled and missed my PK, and they helped me get back on track.”
Coach Jake Wallace praised Kirn’s athletic ability, but said her leadership and team-first mindset are what truly set her apart.
“She cares a lot. Even in games where the score is close, she is making plays to other people, getting other people shots and trying to get other people goals,” Wallace said. “She’s not in it for herself, she’s in it for the team.”
