The Wright City Board of Aldermen meeting was held slightly in the dark last week due to a power outage as a severe thunderstorm rolled through the area.
However, it was business as usual thanks to a generator that kept the power on at city hall. The board approved the motion to hire a new police officer in its March 14 meeting.
The Wright City Police Department has been short-staffed and now has an officer who is recovering from injuries sustained while on duty.
Police Chief Tom Canavan told the board he’s already identified a suitable candidate who has worked for the department previously and wants to return.
After reviewing the budget surplus to see if the new hire is feasible, a motion to add a new officer was passed.
“I know we're being conscientious of our budget, said Alderman Ramiz Hakim, “but when it comes to our safety and I've kept on saying this, budget comes second.”
