A Wright City man is facing a felony charge after allegedly holding his wife against her will. Joshua Dothage was charged Tuesday, Oct. 27, with third-degree domestic assault following an incident the previous day.

After arguing with his wife because she did not want to have sex with him, Dothage allegedly “restrained her on the floor by wrapping his arms and legs around her body and refusing to release her despite her repeatedly begging him to let go of her,” according to a probable cause statement.

Dothage also allegedly removed the woman’s shirt during the struggle. She bit, scratched, and kicked him in an attempt to escape, as well as hitting him with a metal pole from a nearby nightstand drawer, before pretending to pass out, according to the statement. At that point, Dothage released her and she was able to call law enforcement.

Once the woman called police, Dothage fled, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, although he was later located and taken into custody. A deputy observed the woman had injuries consistent with her account of events, according to the probable cause statement.

Dothage, born in 1987, is being held without bond at the Warren County Jail.
