Wright City drops match in three sets

The Wright City Wildcats dropped a home game to Centralia earlier this week.

Wright City lost to Centralia in three sets. They lost 25-12, 25-14, 25-17. Wright City senior Cayle Redmon led the Lady Wildcats with five kills. Kyndall Fox and Kobie Griffitt added three kills. Hailie Davis led Wright City with 10 blocks. Redmon and Claire Noltkamper each had three blocks. Claire Williams led Wright City with six assists. Gigi Nesler had five assists.

“I think we looked really, really great fundamentally,” Wright City volleyball coach Christine Goldsmith said. “Our passes were way better. They were to the target and our hitters were able to kill off of that, which was way better than we had played on Monday. We weren't getting our serve receive down. So today, I was really happy to see our serve receive was much better.”

Goldsmith said she thinks the Lady Wildcats need to work on consistency on their serves.

The closest set of Tuesday’s loss came in the third set. The Lady Wildcats led the set 9-8 and later trailed 15-14 before Centralia ended the set on a 10-3 run.

“I think in the third set, we had a lot more confidence in our abilities and a lot more trust in one another,” Goldsmith said. “The first set was similar. Pretty close. But I think after we got in the groove of it, we knew what to expect and we were able to count on each other and make smarter choices and smarter balls that were out of system.”

Wright City is slated to compete at Orchard Farm Sept. 16.
