Warrenton had a lead in the second quarter but dropped a home game to Ft. Zumwalt East on Friday night.

Warrenton (5-2) fell to Ft. Zumwalt East 51-38 in a non-conference clash last week. The Lady Warriors carried a lead in the second quarter before Ft. Zumwalt East ended the second quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 27-19 lead into halftime. The Lady Warriors were outscored 15-7 in the third quarter and trailed 42-26 after three quarters.

The Lady Warriors struggled to handle Ft. Zumwalt East’s defensive pressure in the loss. Warrenton turned the ball over 19 times in the loss.

“We did not execute like I was hoping for,” Warrenton girls basketball coach Hannah Logan said. “We struggled with handling the pressure. Our guards just weren’t getting the ball where it needs to be and getting the good looks and having patience.”

Logan is hoping as they play more games with more pressure, the Lady Warriors will grow in dealing with defensive pressure.

“I’m hoping they take from this game the effort that I thought Ft. Zumwalt east had the whole entire game as well as being able to handle the ball,” Logan said. “Have patience, slow down and get a good look.”

Warrenton’s offensive production in Friday night’s loss came exclusively from four players. Nevaeh Hill led the Lady Warriors with 14 points. She also registered 12 rebounds to log a double-double. Nyasia Love added nine points for Warrenton. Isabel Benke scored eight points and led the Lady Warriors with four assists. Sophi Mueller finished the game with seven points.

Warrenton responded from Friday night’s loss with a comeback win over Elsberry Monday night. The Lady Warriors overcame an 18-6 deficit after the first quarter in the home win. Warrenton outscored Elsberry 16-3 in the second quarter to take a 22-21 lead into halftime. The Warriors outscored the Indians 10-7 in the final quarter to break a tie after three quarters.

Hill once again led the Lady Warriors in scoring and finished the game with a double-double. She finished the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Mueller finished second among the Lady Warriors in scoring with nine points. Erin Klassing scored eight points and led the Lady Warriors with five steals. Love scored seven points, while Benke scored one point and led the Lady Warriors with three assists.

Warrenton is scheduled to play at the Hy-Vee Arena Holiday Shootout Dec. 28 and Dec. 29 in Kansas City.
