A Warrenton man caused a four-car accident on the exit ramp to westbound Interstate 70, the Missouri State Highway Patrol says.
Five people, including a Wright City teen, were taken to the hospital after the crash.
The accident occurred at 4:13 p.m. Nov. 20 on the ramp from Interstate 64.
According to the accident report, at 2022 Chevrolet Express driven by Miquel A. Deanda failed to slow for congested traffic because of being distracted.
The front left of his vehicle then struck the right rear of a 2008 Ford Focus driven by 32-year-old Ashley L. Weed, of Montgomery City. Deanda's car then continued forward, striking the rear of a 2016 Honda Pilot driven by 83-year-old Wayne A. Edelen, or Foristell.
Following that impact, Deanda's car continued, striking a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 18-year-old Riley J. Scheer, of Wright City. Deanda's car then ran off the side of the road and struck a tree, the accident report states.
Deanda suffered moderate injuries in the crash. The other three drivers, plus a passenger, Cherly L. Rhodes, 32, of O'Fallon, were listed as suffering minor injuries. All of the injured parties were listed as wearing their safety device.
All five of those injured were taken to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital Lake St. Louis by St. Charles County Ambulance District. No additional information about their injuries was available.
Weed, the driver of the first car struck during the accident, was shown as not having insurance.
The vehicles driven by Deanda, Edelen, and Scheer were listed as being totaled. Weed's vehicle suffered minor damage, but all four were towed from the scene.
