Four games into the season, the Warrenton boys basketball team is still searching for its first win.
The Warriors (0-4)dropped their two latest games on Friday and Monday to St. Charles West and St. Charles, respectively.
In both losses, poor second quarters led to insurmountable leads they could not recover from.
In Friday’s home game against SCW, Warrenton trailed 18-9 after the opening game and was outscored 24-4 in the second quarter. The Warriors trailed 59-25 after the third quarter.
Joe Goldsmith and Issiah Jones had a team-high 11 points for Warrenton. Kolby Meine followed with seven.
In Monday’s loss, St. Charles led by five after the first quarter and went on a 19-3 second-quarter run to put the game out of reach.
Wildcats fall to 1-5 on season
The losing streak for Wright City was extended to five following losses to Montgomery County on Dec. 15 and to Elsberry on Dec. 18.
In the Montgomery County contest, the Wildcats trailed 21-6 after the opening quarter and were outscored 21-0 in the second quarter.
Hayden Beck had a team-high seven points.
Friday’s contest was much closer as both squads battled to a 27-27 tie at halftime. Beck recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Branden Contraras and Trent Bruning also reached double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Eagles rout Legacy Academy
Liberty Christian won its fifth game in a row with a 72-32 rout of Legacy Academy Friday night.
The Eagles’ Sophi Mueller drained five treys and had a team-high 23 points in the win. Gracie Foran and Adison Roden also reached double figures with 11 points apiece. As a team, they shot 48 percent from the field.
Yates places second at Blair Oaks
Wright City’s Samantha Yates won two of her three matches at the Blair Oaks Tournament last Wednesday to place second.
She won both of her first two matches by pinfall. She was pinned in the 107-pound title match.
Samantha Byerley recorded a third-place finish at 122 pounds. She won three of her four matches, pinning Southern Boone’s Callie Bergthold in the third-place match.
Elizabeth Riggs also competed for the Wildcats, winning three of her five matches at 127 pounds.
