While Elisabeth Thompson may be taking on some different duties within the Wright City R-II School District, it isn’t as if they’ll be new ones for her.
Effective immediately, Thompson will serve, in an interim capacity, as District Director of Communications. She succeeds Morgan Kohr, who left the district to pursue opportunities outside it.
The athletics department secretary position is hoped to be filled at a later date.
“This is what Team WC is all about,” Thompson said. “We have many team players at Wright City who are willing to step up and support one another. During this transition, we have shifted responsibilities across the team to help balance the workload and make sure we are all supporting one another. I was already Morgan’s backup and had experience with the communications responsibilities, so it made sense for me to step in and help in this role. I certainly don’t expect to fill Morgan’s shoes, but as a parent myself, I understand how important communication is to our families. I’m happy to do my part to help ensure our families continue to receive the information they need.”
Thompson has served in secretarial roles at the high school since 2021 and in Kohr’s role as Communications Specialist and Athletic Department Secretary before becoming the Executive Administrative Assistant.
Thompson said the goal is to hire a permanent replacement when the applicant pool deepens in the spring after college graduations.
“During this interim period, I will only be covering district-wide communications while still serving in my current role,” Thompson said. “Tyler Rickard will be looking for a part-time administrative assistant for Athletics in the near future.”
Rickard said that his dealings with Kohr as a coach within the district made an impression on him.
“I have had the opportunity to work with Morgan in various roles over the last five years,” Rickard said. “In this time, it has become abundantly clear that no one loves this community or school district more than Morgan Kohr. She has devoted herself to making our school a better place, and as she leaves, it is clear she has done just that. While Morgan will be greatly missed, I couldn't be happier for her and her family as they embark on this new journey.”
Wright City Superintendent Dr. Amy Salvo said that while Kohr’s departure leaves a hole to fill, she is confident Thompson is more than capable, having already held the position.
“We are certainly sad to see Mrs. Kohr leave, and we are grateful for the countless contributions she has made to the Wright City R-II School District,” said Superintendent Dr. Amy Salvo. “While we will miss having her on our team, we are excited to welcome Elisabeth, who will step back into the communications role for the remainder of the school year. We appreciate her willingness to support our district during this transition and look forward to the work ahead.”
