Wright City freshman Morgan Nute placed fourth at this week’s state golf meet.
Nute earned a state medal with a fourth place finish at the Class 2 state golf meet. Nute shot a 164 two-round score at the state meet, which was held in Joplin. She shot an 84 Monday and an 80 Tuesday to earn the fourth place finish.
“I thought Morgan did a great job this weekend,” Wright City girls golf coach Shannon Wells said. “She kept her composure throughout the first nine holes on day one when she was struggling and was able to have a great second nine of day one to keep her high on the leaderboard… I can't wait to see what her future holds for her.”
Warrenton senior Merrick Owens also qualified for state. She finished tied for 65th place at the Class 3 state meet in Farmington. She shot a 187 over the two day meet. She shot an 89 on Monday and a 98 on Tuesday.
“Merrick did a great job at the state tournament playing relaxed and focusing on her game,” Warrenton girls golf coach Kelly Anderson said. “Her short game and putting on Monday allowed her to score well. Merrick has represented WHS well as a student athlete over her career and was a two-time state qualifier. Her presence at the course and practice will definitely be missed.”
