Liberty Christian won a pair of matches at the MCSAA Division II state volleyball tournament to earn a third place finish.
The Lady Eagles earned wins over Ozark Christian and Maranatha. The Lady Eagles beat Ozark Christian in three sets. After dropping the first set 26-24, Liberty Christian won the final two sets 25-17 and 15-12 to earn the victory. The Lady Eagles won both sets against Maranatha. They won the sets 25-22 and 25-19.
Liberty Christian’s lone loss at the state tournament came against Our Savior Christian Academy. The Lady Eagles lost the sets 25-11 and 25-15.
“We were playing a bunch of teams we hadn’t played before and we stacked up well against them,” LCA volleyball coach Dakota Ball said. “We just couldn’t quite pull it off there coming off with the third place. So we were very happy with our performance down there.”
Lauren Moss was a first team all-state selection. Anna Scheltens was named to the second team.
Prior to the state tournament, the Lady Eagles won the Metro Athletic Conference tournament title. The Lady Eagles reached double digit wins again despite losing several key contributors from last year’s team.
“They definitely gelled later in the season,” Ball said. “They all came together and were playing volleyball and doing the things that they needed to do fundamentally to succeed.”
