The Wright City boys wrestling team had four grapplers place in the top six, led by Lane Graves who took third place at the Colonel Classic hosted by Missouri Military Academy in Mexico on Saturday.
Graves, competing at 138 pounds, defeated Samuel Stevens by major forfeit in the third-place match. He had advanced to the match with a 23-9 major decision over Hallsville’s Than Htway. He opened the tournament with a pin over Ne Reh of Hallsville followed by a loss to Franklin Buckeridge of St. Louis University High.
Two Wildcats brought home fourth-place medals. At 144 pounds, Joseph Beitel won two of four matches. He defeated Preston Proskocil by a 9-4 decision and pinned Austin Wright of Lutheran St. Charles. He fell in a rematch to Proskocil by a 10-44 decision.
Gavin McCord also split his four matches. He advanced to the third-place match with a pin of Donovan Bruce of Rock Bridge. McCord lost by pinfall to Rock Bridge’s Benjamin Cardetti to place fourth.
Cody Cushing finished in sixth for the Wildcats. He was pinned in his final match of the tournament by Bill Albus of St Louis University High.
