Four Warrenton runners earned medals at last week’s GAC Championships.

Warrenton’s Phillip Kackley and Wyatt Claiborne both earned first team GAC North all-conference honors. Kackley placed second and Claiborne placed fourth in the competition. Kackley finished the race in 17:01 and Claiborne registered a time of 17:24.

Freshmen Matt Craven and Alexis Ruff both earned second team GAC North all-conference honors. Craven was the third Warrenton boys runner to earn a medal. He placed 14th with a time of 19:30 to earn second-team all conference recognition.

“He had a really good race and it was great to see him get the last spot for an all-conference medal,” Warrenton cross country coach Jeremy Collins said.

Ruff placed 14th in the girls race to earn second team honors. She finished with a time of 23:18.

Three other Lady Warrior runners also registered top-20 finishes among all GAC North schools. Camryn Petersmeyer finished 17th with a time of 25:01. Briana Grooms and Ashlynn Reeves logged 18th and 19th place finishes. Grooms finished the competition with a time of 25:31, while Reeves registered a time of 26:29. Jadyn Hopper placed 24th with a time of 28:15. Taryn Sharp placed 26th with a time of 30:30.

The Lady Warriors placed third in the GAC North and ninth out of 14 teams in the GAC. Collins said the Lady Warriors ran well and have been running consistently.

“During the season, we put in a lot of miles and do some tough workouts,” Collins said. “Then we taper off at the end of the season to be as close to 100% as possible going into districts. They have put in a lot of work and now it is the time of the season where we just have to be mentally tough.”

The Warrenton boys runners also placed third as a team in the GAC North. They placed seventh out of 15 teams in the GAC. Other counting scores for Warrenton aside from the three medalists were Jacob Beckemeyer and Noah Cline. Beckemeyer placed 18th with a time of 19:51. Cline 23rd with a time of 20:17.

“As a team, we were a little further back than what we should have been, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort,” Collins said. “It is difficult to always have a good race and we just have to figure out if there was a reason for it and learn from it.”

Warrenton is slated to compete at the Clayton Invite Friday.

Wildcats compete at EMO Meet

Three Wright City runners recently competed at the Eastern Missouri Conference cross country meet.

Lindsay Pettus and Melinda Green both ran in the girls race. Pettus finished 15th with a time of 23:36. Green placed 25th with a time of 25:54. Cade Hornberger placed 33rd in the EMO boys race with a time of 21:20.
