Donations of food, clothing to NECAC continue

Desiree Antoniou is grateful and a bit overwhelmed.

The Warren County Service Coordinator at the not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) is pleased with food, clothing and shoe donation to the pantry she started earlier this year.

“I was shocked at all of the donations,” she said. “It was a blessing. It was a miracle. I know that sounds crazy, but it was story-like.”

Over the summer, Antoniou began offering a limited amount of free foods to people in need at the NECAC Warren County Service Center, 120 E. Main in Warrenton. Word about the service – and contributions – spread.

“It shows you how great the need is,” Antoniou said. “We have three to four people coming in everyday.”

Donations have picked up during the holiday season. An anonymous donor recently dropped off a check for $200 and asked that it be used to buy food for disadvantaged people. Several local groups and individuals have contributed gloves, snacks fleece blankets and other items.

Contributions also include 150 pair of shoes from a drive conducted by the Wright City School District Antoniou has saved back boots to distribute during colder weather, but people can stop by the service center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays and try on and take other pairs.

Antoniou is also working with other community groups and service providers to meet needs in Warren County.

“If I can help, I will,” she said. “If I can’t, I’ll try to refer to someone who can.”

More information about the food and shoe distributions are available by calling Antoniou at 636-456-8191.
