After recently completing his senior year, Warrenton’s Colton Brosenne is ready to compete at the collegiate level.
A multisport athlete at Warrenton, Brosenne recently wrapped up his senior track and field season with his second consecutive sectional appearance. He qualified for sectionals in both the triple jump and long jump. Brosenne also contributed on the football field for Warrenton. He was the Warriors’ punter and also started at wide receiver and defensive back.
Brosenne recently signed his letter of intent to play football at Evangel University. Brosenne, who is also in contact with the Evangel track and field coach, is open to competing in the triple jump in college.
“Their (football) coach came into the school and was talking to me back in October,” Brosenne said last month. “And I already had some schools looking at me then. But I definitely liked what the coach was saying about the program and the school…In February, he texted me and asked if I wanted to come on a visit. And so I did and they offered me. And right when they offered me, I was like I’m going to go here.”
Q: In your time in high school, what sports have you played?
“I’ve played football, ran track and I did golf.”
Q: When did you start playing those sports?
“I have played football since middle school. I did track in middle school. And I picked up golf this year because my brother played it.”
Q: What is your favorite sport?
“Football.”
Q: What was your favorite part about playing high school football?
“Playing with my teammates. And then getting recognition at the collegiate level was nice.”
Q: What was your favorite position on the football field?
“I definitely liked punting the most. That’s what I was best at. But I definitely liked getting the ball at receiver. Scoring is fun.”
Q: What is your favorite track and field event?
“Triple jump is definitely the reason why I do track.”
Q: How long have you competed in that event?
“Sophomore year, I did it and I was ok at it. And then junior year, I figured out how to do it properly. And so I got really into it and got good at it my senior year.”
Q: What are the keys to being good at the triple jump?
“Really getting strength in your legs and getting the form down. It’s a lot of practice. You can’t just start it and then be good at it. It takes time. You’ve got to get your steps correct. You have to have a good, long first phase. You can’t be scared that you’re going to hurt yourself. And a long second phase and then hurdle yourself into the pit.”
Q: Was competing at the collegiate level a focus for you?
“In elementary school, I knew I wanted to go to college and play some sort of sport.”
