When growing up, Westplex Media Group owner Tim Schmidt spent each night scouring boxscores and thumbing through the sports pages of his local daily newspaper. It was at that time ink began filling his veins. More than 20 years later, the passion for the newspaper industry still remains.
Westplex Media Group was formed in 2018 when Schmidt acquired his first newspaper, the Montgomery Standard, a weekly in Montgomery City, Mo. In October 2019, he purchased his second newspaper, the Warren County Record, a weekly in Warrenton and where he spent the majority of his career employed under the previous owners as managing editor and sports editor.
The company continued to grow when the Mexico Ledger was acquired in September 2020 and the Moberly Monitor-Index was added to the company’s portfolio in September 2021. Both twice-weekly publications were purchased from Gannett.
Westplex Media Group also publishes multiple niche products, including a quarterly Senior Success tab geared toward senior citizens and Victory, a bi-monthly sports magazine covering the prep sports scene in Lincoln and Warren counties that was launched in August 2022.
Each week, the four newspapers in Westplex Media Group’s portfolio reach more than 12,000 paid print subscribers and a monthly online readership of more than 160,000 pageviews.
