Cassie Reash is an 18 year old senior at Wright City High School.

As she prepares to graduate and attend St. Charles Community College in the fall, she already knows what she wants to do – she’s a future nurse who is ready to help people.

Even the day of the interview for this story, Cassie had her eye on the future. As soon as she was done answering questions, she was taking a field trip to the cadaver lab.

When she’s at school, she’s involved in many different activities.

She’s a member of HOSA, an international student-led organization with a mission to promore career opportunities in the health-care industry. She’s a member of Future Business Leaders of America, the largest business career and technical student organizaiton in the world with a goal to inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society by providing career preparation and leadership experiences.

She’s also on the scholar bowl team, plays volleyball and soccer, participates in dance, and used to be on the debate team and in earth club. “And a lot of band,” Cassie says.

She uses every bit of her experience to begin preparing for her future career.

Q: What’s your preferred major?

“Nursing. I want to help people and I feel like that would be the best way to do it. I like helping people and I love everything in the medical community.”

Q: How do your activities help you prepare for that?

“They help me with time management and learning to be a leader and work in a group well, and overall being prepared.”

Q: How does being in FBLA help you with your preferred goal?

“Being in a leadership position, we did a lot of leadership classes, it helps us with working together as a group well which is a lot of times what happens in the medical community. So it helps with that a lot.”

Q: What about dance, how does that help?

“I’ve never really done dance before this year so it’s broadening my horizons of what I do and everything possible and seeing what I like.”

Q: How does being on the scholastic bowl team help you?

“With quick answering and being able to think on my feet really fast.”

Q: What do you do besides school?

“I referee at my local church and I play volleyball and I work at Walmart.”

Q: How does refereeing volleyball help you achieve your goals?

“Just like FBLA, it’s a leadership position, helps me take charge, helping working with a group, with my down ref with my score table. It helps all of us work together to achieve a common goal.”
