Wright City Superintendent Dr. Amy Salvo has informed the school board she plans to retire at the end of the 2026-27 school year.
At the board’s October meeting, Salvo submitted her letter of intent to retire, effective June 30, 2027. The Board of Education formally accepted her retirement.
“Wright City is more than a school district to me; it is my hometown,” Salvo said. “As I have often said, ‘From Class President to Superintendent,’ I cannot imagine a more meaningful place to have begun and now conclude my certified career in education. Having the opportunity to return home and serve the very community that helped shape who I am has been both an honor and a privilege.”
With a career in education spanning more than a quarter century, Salvo has served in a variety of roles, including special education teacher, alternative high school principal, middle school principal, director of social-emotional learning and support, deputy superintendent and superintendent.
Salvo has served as Superintendent of Wright City since the beginning of the 2024-25 school year.
Under Salvo’s leadership, the district passed a voter-approved bond issue to support continued improvements to district facilities, including construction of a new gymnasium, expected to be completed in summer 2027.
Through planning and strategic use of existing resources, Salvo also led a successful grade reconfiguration that returned fifth-grade students to the elementary school setting by maximizing available district facility space.
This transition allowed the district better to align grade levels with students' developmental needs while efficiently utilizing existing facilities.
Wright City R-II Board of Education Member and Wright City alumna Erin Williams recently commented on Salvo's leadership and contributions to the district.
“It has been an honor and privilege to serve beside Dr. Salvo for the last three years,” Williams said. “Her hard work and relentless dedication to our students, staff, and Wright City community have made an impact that will far exceed her tenure as our superintendent. Dr. Salvo’s unwavering belief that our students deserve the very best education and can achieve at the highest levels has been the cornerstone of her superintendency and the driving force of every decision she has made. Our district is stronger for having had Dr. Salvo as our superintendent.”
During her tenure as Superintendent, Salvo has helped lead significant improvements in student attendance, academic achievement, and district safety and security.
Her leadership has also supported major facility improvements, strengthened district operations, expanded opportunities for family engagement, and fostered a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility for student success.
Wright City R-II Board of Education President Austin Jones shared his appreciation for Dr. Salvo's leadership and service.
“Dr. Salvo has a contagious energy and passion for education that inspires and motivates others, not only in our district but across the state. I am incredibly grateful for her many contributions to Wright City, including the significant academic and safety improvements she has championed throughout our district. Her leadership has helped move our district forward while successfully navigating some very challenging times. No matter the circumstances, she has consistently demonstrated professionalism, grace, and poise while keeping students at the heart of every decision. While she will certainly be missed, I wish her nothing but happiness in this next chapter as she enjoys more time and evenings with her family. I have no doubt that her impact on education will continue well beyond her retirement.”
Although her retirement will take effect June 30, 2027, Salvo emphasized that important work remains.
“We have many months remaining in this school year, and I remain fully committed to the work ahead. There is still much to accomplish, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside our incredible team to ensure we finish strong and continue moving our district forward. Wright City will always be home, and I will forever be proud to be a Wildcat.”
The Wright City R-II Board of Education is expected to begin the search for the district's next superintendent in the coming weeks.
“I want to sincerely thank the Board of Education and our incredible faculty and staff for their support, trust, and unwavering commitment to our students and community,” Salvo said. “Together, we have accomplished so much, and I am incredibly proud of the progress we have made in student attendance, academic achievement, safety and security, and strengthening the systems and operations that support our district. I firmly believe the work we have accomplished together has established a strong foundation that will positively impact Wright City students, staff, and families for years to come.”
