Wright City R-II School District launching Parent Summit Series

Posted

The Wright City R-II School District is seeking community involvement for a new Parent Summit Series that launches next week.

Parents and district patrons are invited to attend any number of the four sessions as school officials aim to address topics that are relevant to student education and community growth.

Superintendent Dr. Chris Berger said the idea for the meetings and their topics emerged from the district’s strategic plan to improve community engagement.

“Overall, we hear that parents want to be more involved,” he said. “This is one opportunity for parents to get involved.”

The first scheduled session is on Thursday, March 21, from 5-5:45 p.m. on “New WCHS 101.” This will be held at the high school library. Discussion will be focused on the district’s transition to the new high school, athletic facility timeline and new traditions.

Three other parent meetings will be held next month, all being held from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Wright City Middle School library.

On Tuesday, April 9, the second session will be held on “Behavior Resources and Discipline.” District officials will review the discipline handbook, vape education, and preventative and restorative approaches. Assistant principals and a school resource officer will be in attendance.

The third session’s topic will be “English Language Learners” on Monday, April 15. The key points to be discussed will be reviewing the communication channels and registration assistance for the district’s growing Hispanci population. Berger noted that the session will be spoken in Spanish..

The final session will be held Tuesday, April 16, on “Special Education.” The seminar will provide information about the transitional stages in high school and beyond for special education students and parents.

Preregistration is not required for parents to attend any of the sessions.
