Record Managing EditorWright City is prohibiting parking at the east entrance to Ruge Park in an effort to reduce congestion in the area.At the April 9 meeting, the board voted unanimously to restrict parking on a stretch of Kerland Drive and the Ruge Park east entrance.According to the ordinance, parking will not be allowed on the south side of Kerland Drive from the park’s east entrance to 100 feet west, and on both sides of the east entrance at the park.City officials said the traffic is so heavy in the area that visitors to the park for softball and baseball games are having trouble entering and leaving. This should help eliminate some of the trouble, officials added, since the number of softball and baseball players continues to grow each year.“There are so many cars there for ball,” Mayor David Heiliger said. “It’s crowded down there with trying to play games and practices.”Last month, Parks Director Curt Kehoe approached the board about improving the traffic flow at Ruge Park.In other news• Bill Schaffer and Roland Niemann were both appointed to the board of adjustment, but appointments for the planning and zoning commission were postponed. In addition, the board will proceed with electing a board president at the first meeting of May.• A special permit was granted to Harris Automotive and Tire to hold its annual D.A.R.E. Rod Run on Friday, July 10, at Diekroeger Park. The event will start at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.Wright City
