The Wright City Fire Protection District (WCFPD) has partnered with Nixle to implement its community notification system to alert residents in real-time for localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories. As a resident, there are several simple ways to register:• Text your ZIP code to 888777 from your mobile phone; or• Go to www.wrightcityfire.com and sign up via the Nixle widget.Once registered, residents will receive a confirmation text to their mobile device. Residents may also customize their alert settings by going to www.nixle.com and creating a user profile.“We have had amazing success with our Facebook and Twitter accounts,” Fire Chief Ron MacKnight says. “We wanted to capitalize on the technology out there, and this was identified by our residents as something they wanted to see offered by their local first responders.”MacKnight said the idea for Nixle was brought to officials during a series of town hall meetings designed to gain input from residents for the district’s strategic planning process.“This application allows us to send real-time data out to those who may be affected by an event on our community instead of them having to like or follow the other sites, which are generally unmonitored.”In addition, MacKnight said the service is secure, reliable and easy to use for their organization.“Ease of use is key; we wanted a medium that would allow us to focus on the incident, but quickly update the community as well.”Nixle
