Wright City Athletic Boosters to sell pavers to help pay for weight training equipment

Posted

The Wright City R-II Board of Education approved a cost share proposal with the Wright City Athletic Boosters that will provide new weight training equipment at the new high school.

The board unanimously approved the cost share agreement, in which the Wright City Athletic Boosters will commit at least $40,000, which would cover 50 percent of the estimated cost. The remaining cost not covered by the Athletic Boosters will be covered by the Wright City R-II School District.

Wright City R-II Superintendent Dr. Chris Berger and Wright City Activities Director David Evans both brought forward the weight room concept, Wright City Athletic Boosters President Amy Dunning said.

“That is obviously an area where all athletes can go to better themselves regardless of what sport they may be participating,” Dunning said. “Including some of the dance and cheer teams that aren’t necessarily labeled as true sports, but are beneficial to improve themselves by way of getting stronger and improving themselves for their craft.”

The cost share agreement will allow the current weight training equipment to stay at the current high school during the transition to the new campus.

The plan is for the Athletic Boosters to sell 400 total pavers to cover their portion of the cost. They are planning to sell 200 pavers at the new stadium entrance. They also plan to sell 100 pavers at each of the two tunnels to the stadium bleachers. They will have 4x8 inch and either 12x12 or 16x16 inch pavers for sale. The listed price for the pavers is $100 for the 4x8 inch pavers, although they are considering raising the price for the pavers.

“I’m going to sign this document tonight,” Wright City R-II Board of Education President Austin Jones said. “It’s going to say $100 in there. And then if you all decide to sell them for $150, I want people to understand that $100 is an initial proposal. It’s not necessarily the final cost.”

Board of Education member Kyle Lewis was one of several board members to voice support for the proposal.

“I just wanted to express how excited and happy it makes me for the districts in the community to partner on an endeavor like this,” Lewis said. “And the boosters are the pulse of the community in terms of athletics, both within the district and within the community. And I cannot be more proud of this initiative.”

The Wright City Athletic Boosters plan to launch their fundraising initiative in January 2024.
