William J. Baugh, age 99, a long-time resident of Warrenton, but now in Rhinelander, Wisconsin died on September 26, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 21, 1921, in St. Louis, Missouri to Frank and Charlotte (Collins) Baugh. He graduated from the Hadley Tech High School in St. Louis in 1940.

Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 17, 1942, and served in WW2 under General George Patton landing at Normandy, France, through Europe, the Battle of the Bulge to the end of the war. He earned 5 bronze stars. He was honorably discharged from the Army on October 23, 1945.

Bill returned to the St. Louis area and married the love of his life, Rosemary Schmitt on September 10, 1948. God blessed them with 56 years of marriage.

After his service in the Army, Bill worked for the Mississippi River Fuel/Corp of Engineers for 15 years, then for Campbell Wieland Engineering and then for EDM Engineering from 1986-1989.

In Bill's spare time, Bill had many interests. He loved all animals, taking in all those dogs that showed up at his front door. He enjoyed painting, drawing, and reading. He enjoyed watching baseball and football, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and after moving to the Northwoods of Wisconsin to live with his daughter, he enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.

Bill and Rosemary enjoyed going to his annual 35th Division Army reunions where he was able to visit with his “brothers” especially his best buddies Chief Hayes and Jonesy.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Peggy Janssen, his son Christopher Baugh, his grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, Sabrina, Leon, Joel, Alina, and Nicholas; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary on November 19, 2004, his parents, his brother Frank Baugh, his sister Charlotte Piper and a great-great-grandson.

Bill's remains were laid to rest next to his wife's in the Warrenton Cemetery on October 5, 2020. You may leave your condolences for the Baugh family at www.carlsonfh.com. Any memorials will be given to the Disabled American Veterans and the animal shelter in Rhinelander. A memorial service will be planned in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and hopefully in the spring a celebration of life in Warrenton.
