John Wilmes, of Warrenton, pleaded guilty in the Circuit Court of Warren County to two counts of the class B felony of Child Molestation First Degree on Dec. 6.
After his plea, the court sentenced Wilmes to two consecutive sentences of 12 years per count, for a total sentence of 24 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
The charges related to events that occurred in Warrenton between December 24, 2013, and July 31, 2015.
During this time, the defendant engaged in sexual contact with a child less than 14 years of age.
The case was investigated by the Warrenton Police Department after the victim reported the sexual contact to a mandatory reporter.
“I commend the victim for having the courage to come forward," Warren County Interim Prosecuting Attorney Keith Freie said in a news release. “I also want to thank Amy Fite of the Missouri Office of Prosecution Services for her assistance in bringing this matter to a resolution. As a result of the collaboration and great work done by the Missouri Office of Prosecution Services, Warrenton Police Department, Child Advocacy Center, and staff members at the Warren County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office this man has been held accountable for his actions.”
Upon release from the Missouri Department of Corrections, Wilmes will be required to register with the Missouri Sex Offender Registry.
