Warrenton man charged with felony driving while revoked

A Warrenton man has been charged with felony driving while revoked in connection with an incident earlier this year, according to online court records.

Sean Fitzsimmons was charged Oct. 20 in connection with the April 19 incident. Warrenton police stopped Fitzsimmons that day after observing him fail to maintain a single lane, according to a probable cause statement.

Police saw Fitzsimmons’ tires cross the center line once by approximately two tire widths, and two more times by one tire width, according to the statement. Records checks revealed his driver’s license was revoked and he had seven past driving while revoked convictions, including two felonies, the statement notes.

Separate from the new charge, Fitzsimmons has been in the news recently for challenging several tickets he received relating to riding an electric bicycle. After Fitzsimmons first brought his concerns to the Warrenton Board of Aldermen in September, the board approved loosening the city’s restrictions on e-bikes Oct. 6.

Fitzsimmons declined to comment on whether the vehicle he was operating April 19 was an e-bike, although the probable cause statement mentions Fitzsimmons’ “driver side tires,” suggesting it was not.

Fitzsimmons appeared to suggest, however, that his latest charge was not unrelated to the citations he received for riding his e-bike, saying “they’re already retaliatory” in response to a text message from the Record.

An initial appearance in Fitzsimmons’ new felony case has been scheduled for Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. in Warren County Circuit Court.
