Warren County R-III School Board discusses updates on new elementary school

Posted

The Warren County R-III School District Board of Education introduced a first look at potential exterior colors for the new elementary school during their latest meeting.

The board has looked at four options so far. One option is tan colored brick with a green roof, while another is tan colored brick with a brown roof. Two other options introduced a potential blue roof with red brick or a green roof with red brick.

Despite the four options, the school will officially have a brick exterior with a metal roof.

“You might think it’s a small thing,” Superintendent Gregg Klinginsmith said. “But it really has a long lasting impact, so we want to take our time and get it right.”

Klinginsmith notes that this will be a tough decision, but the appearance of the new school will be up for discussion within the board for the next few weeks.

The board is not positive a decision will be made soon, but they will continue to look at new information and go from there.

“You want to get something that’s aesthetically pleasing and something that we can all be proud of,” Klinginsmith said.

The board also discussed minor updates on the new elementary school that is expected to open in January 2027. These updates included adjustments in the kitchen, moving doors into different spots and upgrading security at the entrance.

In addition, the board agreed on a base bid of 89,024 square feet with 24 classrooms and seven special education classrooms. The base bid will hold around 650 students.

The board discussed two additional alternate bids as well to provide additional classroom space if bids come in lower than expected. One bid could potentially have 6,534 square feet and six classrooms and another could have 9,706 square feet consisting of seven classrooms.

Klinginsmith is hoping the bids will go out in August and the board will vote on them in October.

The board notes they are still on track to start construction of the new elementary school later this year in November.
