The Warren County Record was honored with an award in the Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Missouri Press Association and Missouri Press Foundation.
The award was presented during a luncheon held Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Sheraton Westport Chalet Hotel, St. Louis.
Publisher Tim Schmidt took third place for Best Front Page in the Class 2 category for weekly newspapers of similar size in the state. Entrants were judged on the following criteria: quality of writing, layout, design, headlines, white space and other elements.
Schmidt will continue serving on the Missouri Press Board of Directors in 2024. He is currently in his second year on the board.
Schmidt founded Westplex Media Group, which owns three other community newspapers in Montgomery City, Mexico and Moberly. He has owned The Record since 2019.
Amos Bridges, editor-in-chief at the Springfield News-Leader, was elected president of the 2024 board. He has been MPA’s Acting President since Beth Durreman, former publisher of the Laclede County Record in Lebanon, left employment in the newspaper industry earlier this year and will officially take office as MPA president Jan. 1.
