The Warren County R-III School Board set the district’s 2017-18 property tax rate at its meeting Aug. 24.The new levy was set at $4.1946, up 0.0291 cents over the 2016 figure of $4.1698.“We received the assessed valuation from the county after they go to the board of equalization and plug it into calculation sheet from the state auditor’s office,” said R-III Director of Finance Shelley Kinder.“That will determine what our tax rate ceiling is.”Kinder says the annual impact on a home valued at $150,000 would be around $7.The assessed valuation of property within the district in Warren County rose to $276,363,122 from $274,816,035 a year ago.The estimated revenue from a $4.1946 levy would be $11,592,327 at 100 percent collection rate. The district rolled back the debt levy service.“We could have levied 74 cents, but we rolled back to 62 cents to keep that level,” said Kinder. “We felt like our balances were good enough standing in our debt services levy to roll back 12 cents.”“If the assessed valuation grows too fast at a certain percentage, it triggers a little bit of a rollback,” said Board President John Clinger.“The board has the authority to roll it back or if we need that money we can just leave it at that.”R-III continues to have one of the lowest tax levy figures around compared to neighboring districts. Wright City R-II established its new tax levy at $3.1543 for 2017-18.“Our tax levy is fairly meager as compared to Howell, Wentzville and Fort Zumwalt,” said Clinger.SCHOOL FUNDING
