A man who allegedly led police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle has pleaded guilty to three felony charges.
Deandre M. Brooks, 36, Warrenton, was arrested Oct. 11 and charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest for a felony and felony drug possession.
He pleaded guilty to all three charges Dec. 14, and a sentencing hearing in front of Presiding Judge Wes Dalton is set for Jan. 18 in the Warren County Circuit Court.
Around 11 p.m. the night Brooks was arrested, Wright City police received a call informing them of a possible stolen vehicle, described as a black Kia SUV, according to a police report. A matching vehicle was later observed driving east on Interstate 70 near the Wildcat Drive exit.
A check on the license plate revealed that the plates belonged to a Cadillac, authorities said. Police signaled for the SUV to pull over east of Wright City, and at first it did.
Then, after allowing a woman to exit the vehicle, the driver reportedly sped away and led officers on a chase to Lake St. Louis.
After traveling to the area of Prospect Road, the driver, later identified as Brooks, stopped and fled on foot, before being apprehended after a short pursuit, police said.
A check of the vehicle’s identification number confirmed that it was stolen out of Warrenton, according to the report.
Police searching the vehicle reportedly located a glass smoking device with residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
