A suspect has been charged with stealing valuables from the home of a Warrenton woman who recently passed away.
Kelly L. McRoy, 41, of Bellflower, was arrested June 4 and charged with second-degree burglary and stealing items valued at more than $750 following an investigation of the theft.
The crime occurred at a home on Highway 47 south of Warrenton, according to court documents submitted by the Warren County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies were contacted in mid-May by the daughter of the deceased homeowner. The woman said she had gone to clean her mother’s house, and found the front door pried open.
The woman reported that lamps, a safe, stained glass decorations, jewelry cabinets and jewelry were stolen.
Investigators said McRoy was identified as a suspect in the theft, and was located in possession of several of the stolen items. Two lamps, two stained glass decorations, and two jewelry cabinets allegedly were found in her possession, deputies said. The value of the recovered items was $1,700.
Court documents did not indicate whether deputies located the individual jewelry or safe that were taken.
When speaking with deputies, McRoy allegedly admitted to entering the house with another person and taking the items.
After being taken into custody, McRoy was booked at the Warren County Jail and then released on her own recognizance, according to court records. She has a court appearance scheduled for June 30.
