Stewart Melvin Iliff

Stewart Iliff of Warrenton, passed away on January 24, after a sudden illness at the age of 88. He was born October 6, 1934, to Lawrence and Lucille (Stewart) Iliff in Oklahoma City, OK. They preceded him in death as did his sister Linda Iliff Jones.

Stewart lived most of his early childhood in Oklahoma City and then the family later moved to the Kansas City area. He graduated from Kansas City’s Northeast High School in 1952. He served as a Medic in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his return, he met the love of his life, Bernice Ann Jacobs, in Kansas City. They were wed on December 28, 1955, in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 2013.

Stewart attended the University of Missouri - Kansas City and graduated from the School of Pharmacology in 1958. As a pharmacist, he worked in several drug stores in Midwest cities, including Columbia, MO, Clinton, Iowa, and the St. Louis area. In 1964 he bought a Rexall Drug Store in Warrenton; and moved his family there. In 1967 he tore down the old building to rebuild a new one in the same location and named it Stewart’s Drug. Stewart served the community for more than 50 years and was known for his customer service at all times of the day, helping families with their emergency medical needs after hours. Stewart retired from full-time work in 1984, selling his business, and continued working part-time as a relief pharmacist until 2016. Stewart was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church since 1964 and was active in Warrenton Lions Club. He and Bernice enjoyed traveling throughout their 58 years of marriage, especially in Las Vegas, and Greece was one of their favorite destinations. He enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of the UKC tennis team, playing golf with many great friends at the Warrenton Golf Course, snow skiing with friends, reading the daily newspaper, and taking vacations with his family. Colorado was a favorite destination where Stewart climbed 42 “14ers” (mountains of 14,000 feet above sea level) in the Rocky Mountain Range. He was a proud member of “the outlaws” to Bernice’s family and enjoyed numerous Jacobs gatherings full of faith, love, and wonderful family traditions.

Stewart is survived by his son Kent (Barb) Iliff of St. Peters, daughters Laura (Gordon) Nutter of North Fort Myers, Fl, and Lynn (Steve) Onstot, of Joplin,  and niece Leslie Plum (Todd) James, Davenport, IA who was a blessing to their family; grandchildren Brett Iliff, Shamus (Jennifer) Nutter, Shauna Nutter (Tim) Manley, Salem, Sarah Onstot (Jerrod) Swearingen, Oronogo, Monica Onstot, Joplin, Kristine James (Jered) Reynolds, Phoenix, AZ, Gina James (Mark) Budzinski, Two Rivers, WI, Marcy James (Brad) Peekenschneider, Des Moines, IA, and Elizabeth James (Jared) Boldt, Davenport, and 17 great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren, a brother Steve (Susan) Iliff, Overland Park, nephew Rich (Jennifer) Jones, Overland Park, Chris Jones, south Texas, and Stephanie Jones (Mark) Vogl, Overland Park. He is also survived by brother-in-law Francis Jacobs and multiple nieces and nephews of the Jacobs clan.

A Visitation for Mr. Stewart Iliff will be held on Tuesday, January 31,  from 4 P.M. - 7 P.M. at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 1,  beginning at 10 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A committal service will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in honor of Stewart Iliff are suggested to Disabled American Veterans, Boys Town of Missouri, or The Humane Society of Missouri c/o Martin Funeral Home.
