Sandra Carole Smith (née: Wheeler) passed away on Sunday, May 3, at her home, at the age of 85. She was born on September 11, 1940, in Calloway County, Missouri, the daughter of the late Irene and Elmer Witthaus.

Sandra was united in marriage to the love of her life, Allen V. Smith, on October 25, 1968. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage filled with love, adventure, and devotion. Sandra graduated from Warren County R-III High School in 1958 and remained a proud Warrior throughout her life. She and Allen faithfully attended countless sporting events and theater performances, even long after their own children had graduated. Sandra lived a vibrant and active life. She and Allen traveled the world with dear friends known as the “Adorables,” creating lasting memories along the way. She found joy in playing cards, golfing, antique shopping, and tending to her beautiful flowers. She was also a dedicated member of the Warrenton Khoury League and local golf leagues. The heart of Sandra’s life was caring for children. For over 40 years, she operated a home daycare, nurturing and raising more than 80 children. Many remained closely connected to her well into adulthood, a testament to the love and care she gave so freely. Sandra will also be remembered for her deep love of family and her passion for all things Christmas and Santa, which brought joy to everyone around her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sandra is lovingly survived by her husband, Allen; her children, Lynn Joyce and Ted of Warrenton, Craig Smith and Laura of Springfield, and Amy Smith of Warrenton; her grandchildren, Victoria Joyce of Independence, Adam Joyce and Jessica of Columbia, Hogan Smith of Springfield, and Reagan Smith of Springfield; and her great-grandchildren, Noah, Seth, and Lydia Fry, and William and Aiden Joyce. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Bobby and Mike Wheeler.

A visitation for Sandra was held on Thursday, May 7, at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 8, also at the funeral home. Burial followed on Friday at the Lippstadt Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in honor of Sandra.
