Roger Lyle Olsson, of Warrenton, passed away on Monday September 30, at the St. Clair Nursing Home. He was born on September 19, 1934, to the late Hilding and Nancy (nee: Oborg) Olsson in Assaria, KS. Roger had reached the age of 90 years.
Roger proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1955 - 1957, at which time he was stationed in Japan at Camp Zama. While there, he was in the Signal Battalion, which provided safe communications to the Joint Force in the Pacific. He was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Felton on August 15, 1954, at Assaria Lutheran Church in Assaria, KS. They celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage before Shirley's passing in 2015. This union was blessed with three children, Stuart, Todd, and Rachelle. Roger was employed by McDonnell Douglas/Boeing as a Technical Writer for many years. He was a member of Grace Bible Church in Warrenton, where he was very active. He was a man of strong Christian faith; his faith and the faith of his family was very important to him. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader. He especially enjoyed reading old western genres. He loved family history and was very interested in genealogy. Roger was a devoted Christian, an amazing husband, father, and grandfather and his presence will be missed for years to come.
Roger was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley; his parents, Hilding and Nancy Olsson; and one sister, Nancy Dean. Those who will remain grateful for having shared in Roger's life are his three children, Stuart Olsson and wife Pam, Todd Olsson and wife Shannon, Rachelle Hosty and husband Kevin; ten grandchildren; Rebecca Delaloye (John), Clayton Olsson (Wendy), Breanna Burke (Bret), Kirsten Olsson, Samantha Olsson, Becca Wren, Brigid Hosty, Sean Hosty, Bailey Olsson, Brandon Olsson; seven great grandchildren, Bentley, Luke, Savannah, Charlotte, Axle, Clara and Dinah; other relatives and many close family friends.
The family of Roger Olsson will host a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, October 26, from 10 A.M. - 12 P.M. at Grace Bible Church in Warrenton. A service will also be held on Saturday, October 26, beginning at 12 P.M. with Pastor Mark Meyers officiating. A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 29, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with full military honors. Memorial donations are suggested to the Pregnancy Options Center or to Grace Bible Church c/o Martin Funeral Home.
