The Warren County R-III School District Board of Education not only celebrated School Board Recognition Month during their previous meeting, but also celebrated approved changes for the 2024-25 school year.
One of the most exciting approved plans will include adding a boys volleyball program, as well as a cheerleading stunt program. The stunt program will be available for both girls and boys that are interested.
“There is quite a bit of excitement about the addition of men’s volleyball,” Superintendent Dr. Gregg Klinginsmith said. “Adding volleyball and stunt will give students more opportunities to participate in activities at school.”
Klinginsmith anticipates the school will see enough students for a freshmen, junior varsity and varsity team for the men’s volleyball team. In addition, the school is also anticipating a junior varsity and varsity squad for the stunt team.
Both of these sports will compete in the spring and are still looking for coaches. To learn more about these positions, please visit the district’s website.
Two additional teachers will be hired for the upcoming school year. One teaching position will oversee dual enrollment and registered apprenticeships at Warrenton High School. The other position will teach agriculture and career courses at Black Hawk Middle School.
In addition, Warrenton High School will add an assistant athletic director. Jason Koper will fill this role, while still remaining as the head football coach. Koper will teach half of the day and perform assistant activities director duties for the other half of the day.
“Football has the most students involved of any sport,” Klinginsmith said. “Taking football off the plates of our current activities department staff will allow them to provide better support to the other fall activities.”
The school board hopes these changes will expand support for all activities. The board also hopes to achieve one of their goals and provide a quality broadcast for as many varsity athletic contests as possible.
Lastly, the school board would like to achieve more recognition and celebration of students in all activities, including band, drama, choir and FFA through social media.
“This all falls on our activities department,” Klinginsmith said. “Our current activities department is very thin and needs more support to meet the expectations.”
