Three Warrenton Post 122 Freshman players will have the opportunity to compete in the Ninth District All-Star game in New Haven on July 26 at 1 p.m.Chris Garrett earned a first-team spot as a shortstop after batting a team-best .429 with 30 hits. He had eight doubles, with 20 runs scored and 11 RBIs.He was also a tremendous infielder and had the most work on the mound with 28.2 innings pitched. Garrett went 2-3, striking out 25 and walking 10. He allowed 35 hits and seven earned runs.“He was a great all-around player for us,” said Coach Brian Vogt. “His bat was really reliable, and he had a lot of timely hits. I didn’t realize he had the most innings pitched until looking at the numbers, but he was really able to keep the ball down in the zone. He was also a great leader by example.”Brendan Hazel was chosen after batting .388 with 26 hits in the lead-off spot. He scored 18 runs and was responsible for nine RBIs.Hazel was also a steady on the mound, recording a team-high 25 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched. He walked 17 batters, while sporting a 2.86 ERA.“He was very dependable, and like Chris, was at every practice,” said Vogt. “He got a lot of time in the outfield and made some great plays. He was also great at the plate, always finding a way to get on base.”Dalton Owenby earned a position on the team as a pitcher after being one of the most reliable figures on the mound.He batted .268 with 11 hits and eight RBIs, while scoring nine runs.Owenby pitched 27 innings, carrying a 2.85 ERA while allowing 11 earned runs. He struck out 24 batters while limiting his walks to three.“He was efficient, throwing strikes, which was huge to prevent from walking a lot of batters.
