Over 20,000 Warren County voters cast their ballots in the general election

Turnout was expected to be high in the general election and Warren County voters met those expectations with 20,269 voters, or 71.96% of registered voters in the county, casting their ballots on, or before Nov. 5.

Over 20,000 Warren County voters cast their ballots in the general election

Turnout was expected to be high in the general election and Warren County voters met those expectations with 20,269 voters, or 71.96% of registered voters in the county, casting their ballots on, or before Nov. 5.

A significant portion of that turnout came before Election Day, with 6,222 voters casting their ballots during no excuse early and absentee voting which opened on Oct. 22, allowing voters to skip the lines on Tuesday. 

Local races

There was one local ballot measure, the Wright City Fire Protection District’s Prop F, an $11-million bond issue, that Wright City voters passed 4,248 to 2,213, eclipsing the required four-sevenths majority. 

In the other contested race, Republican Jeff Myers was reelected to his House of Representative seat representing the 42nd District. Myers received 14,805 votes, or 76.78%,while Democratic challenger Shaun Sparks had 4,477 votes (23.22%  

Outside of those, all other races at the local level were uncontested, and, in the absence of any write-in campaigns, all of those candidates will advance to office. 

District 1 County Commissioner Matt Flake will continue in his role and Dave Mikus will step in as District 2 Commissioner. 

Kevin Harrison will continue as the Warren County sheriff, and Katie Smith will continue as assessor. 

Vickie Vohsen was voted as public administrator and Jason Sides was voted as coroner. 

Bart Korman was voted to serve as the surveyor. 

Associate Judge Richard Scheibe was elected as presiding judge of the 12th Circuit representing Warren, Montgomery and Audrain counties. Scheibe’s current position will be occupied by Jonathan Yelton, who was appointed by Gov. Mike Parson on Oct. 25.  

Statewide Races

There were also a number of statewide races on the ballot that Warren County voters will help to decide. While those races will not be called entirely until later this evening, Warren County voters have made their decision. 

They voted across the board for Republican candidates in the open statewide offices. 

Mark Kehoe defeated Democratic challenger Crystal Quade in Warren County 14,717 to 4,638. Libertarian and Green Party gubernatorial candidates Bill Slantz and Paul Lehmann garnered a mere 293 and 130 votes respectively. . 

David Wasinger continued that streak in the county defeating Democrat Richard Brown with 14,135 votes to 4,648 with Libertarian and Green Party candidates Ken Iverson and Dani Elliot falling behind with 393 and 271 votes. 

Denny Hoskins, republican candidate for Secretary of State won the county as well with 14,169 votes, defeating Democrat Barbara Phifer (4,755 votes), Libertarian Carl Herman Freese (376 votes) and Green Party candidate Jerome Bauer (124 votes). 

Republican candidate for Attorney General and incumbent Andrew Bailey received 14,551 votes defeating Democrat Elad Gross and Libertarian Ryan Munro who received 4,446 votes and 430 votes respectively. 

Ballot measures

There were also six statewide ballot measures. 

Warren County residents approved or denied the following. 

Amendment 2 to legalize sports betting in the state of Missouri did not pass in the county with 10,585 votes against and 9,279 votes for the amendment. 

Amendment 3 to legalize abortion up to the point of fetal liability in Missouri also failed to pass in Warren County with 11,889 votes against the measure and 8,121 votes for the measure. 

Amendment 5 to allow an additional casino at Lake of the Ozarks was shot down by Warren County voters with 10,881 votes against and only 8,678 votes for the measure. 

Amendment 6 to reinstitute a $3 fee on those found guilty of crimes to fund the Missouri Sheriffs’ Retirement Fund was also denied by Warren County voters with 11,548 voting against the reinstitution of the fees and only 7,447 voting for them. 

Amendment 7 to ban noncitizens from voting along with ranked choice voting in Missouri was the only statewide ballot measure to pass in Warren County with 14,599 votes for the measure and 4,575 against it. 

Prop A to raise the Missouri minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2026 also failed to pass in Warren County with 10,059 votes against the increase and only 9,464 for it.

Judge retentions

While Missouri Supreme Court and District Judges are appointed officials, they do face a retention elections in the year in the first election after they have served at least a year. If they are retained in that election they then serve 12 year terms, here is how Warren County voted for those who faced elections today. 

Missouri Supreme Court Judge Kelly C. Broniec: 11,961 votes to retain and 5,155 votes not to retain. 

Missouri Supreme Court Judge Ginger K. Gooch: 11,554 votes to retain and 5,366 votes not to retain. 

Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District Judge Robert M. Clayton: 11,175 votes to retain and 5,528 votes not to retain. 

Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District Judge Gary M. Gaertner: 11,170 votes to retain and 5,497 votes not to retain

Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District Judge Renee Hardin-Tammons: 11,334 votes to retain and 5,341 votes not to retain. 

Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District Judge Cristian M. Stevens: 11,482 votes to retain and 5,184 votes not to retain. 

Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District Judge Michael S. Wright: 11,748 votes to retain and 4,543 votes not to retain. 

It is important to note that these are still unofficial results and will be certified at a later date, and many statewide and federal races, including the race for the office of President and Vice President have not yet been called.
