About 80 students will graduate from Wright City High School May 17, and then they will board a bus that will take them to Sports Fusion, an indoor entertainment park in Chesterfield. The venue, on Long Road, has activities like laser tag, rock climbing, dodgeball, mini golf, arcade games, and obstacle courses waiting for the new graduates to enjoy, at no charge to them.“This is a gift to the seniors,” said Vicki Nadler, a Class of 2019 parent who’s leading the fundraising committee for Project Graduation 2019.On a night when some young people might be tempted to celebrate recklessly, Project Graduation is designed to keep the graduates safe.Nadler said the annual event, which has been going on for more than 20 years, offers the newly minted graduates a safe, supervised and fun event where they can say their goodbyes. She said everyone will be locked in until it’s time for the bus to leave.“It’s an all-night party. It goes until 5 a.m.,” Nadler said. “Throughout the night we give prizes away; things they would need for college, like TVs, microwaves, refrigerators...”Admittedly, it’s been a long time since some of the chaperones have stayed up so long.“My son’s 18, so it was about 18 years ago,” Nadler said, adding that parents at the party will cover each other when they need breaks.Chaperones won’t be leaving, and if new graduates want to leave, “We will call their parents,” Nadler said. The committee formed last spring to start planning their fundraising events. A few have already been held. This summer they held a car wash and a barbecue.“So far we have raised a little over $5,200 and our goal is between $10,000 and 15,000,” Nadler said. The group has one event planned each month from now through graduation. They are hosting a breakfast 7-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Sunrise United Methodist Church, 70 Bell Road, Wright City. Eggs, sausage, pancakes, doughnuts, orange juice and coffee will be served. Nadler said guests may donate what they want. Proceeds will go to project graduation. The group is hosting a trivia night Saturday, March 9, at the Wright City Lions Club. Doors open at 6 p.m. Trivia starts at 7 p.m. Guests should bring their own drinks and snacks. The event includes a 50/50 raffle, auction and gun raffle. The price is $20 per person or $140 per table of eight for early registrants or $160 for a table of eight at the door, Nadler said.Dine and Donate at Dairy Queen in Warrenton is Tuesday, April 16, starting at 5 p.m. Nadler said a small percentage of each diner’s meal will go to project graduation. If everyone gives a little, they just might make their goal.“I hope people come out and help support us,” said Nadler. For more information contact Vicki Nadler at dvrbnadler@gmail.com.Wright City School District logo
