Michael August Volkerding

Mr. Michael August Volkerding, of Marthasville, passed away on Sunday, May 11. He was born on January 16, 1951, in Washington, to the late Walter and Lorraine (nee: Buescher) Volkerding. Michael had reached the age of 74 years.

Michael was united in marriage to Teresa Rose Engemann on October 2, 1976, in Dutzow. They celebrated 48 wonderful years of marriage last fall. This union was blessed with three children, Jessica, James and Kris. Michael was an owner and operator of a trucking company for many years and then was a member of the Operators Local 101 from which he retired. After retirement, he spent a few years working at Jonesburg Elevator, assisting local farmers.  He enjoyed being outdoors, he loved gardening and especially tending to the tomatoes. He enjoyed farming, bailing hay and shooting Trap. He enjoyed afternoon cocktails at 3:00 PM but, what he cherished the most was spending time with his grandchildren. Michael was a family man and truly loved his family and his friends who were like family.

Michael Volkerding was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lorraine Volkerding; his in laws, Herman and Rosemary Engemann; one nephew, Nicholas Volkerding and one niece Allison Koch. He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa; his children, Jessica Schleicher, James Volkerding and significant other, Jamie, Kris Volkerding and wife Lauren; five grandchildren, Beau, Briley, Ryder, Millie and Callahan; two siblings, John Volkerding and wife Linda and Patty Koch and husband Bob; the family dog "Jack"; other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, at Martin Funeral Home in Marthasville from 4 P.M. - 7 P.M. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 21, beginning at 10 A.M. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church.  Memorial donations are suggested to be given to St. Ignatius Church or to the Warrenton Agape c/o Martin Funeral Home.
