Margaret Marie Harlan nee Young was born September 2, 1926, in Grafton, Illinois to Diamond and Hallie Young nee Curry. She passed away on June 4, at the age of 96.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Leora Andrews of St. Charles; her grandson, Cullen (Jeanne) Andrews and granddaughter, Rylie Andrews of Chesterfield; her brothers Howard (Mary Lou) Young of Tucson, AZ, and Lester (June) Young of St. Pete, FL; her sister, Harrietta (Clifford) Reynolds of Hastings, NE; sister-in-law, Imogene Rose of Quincy, IL and many nieces and nephews. Her niece MaryLou (Ray) Rainwater of Truesdale, brought her particular joy and comfort. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Wilbur Harlan; her parents Diamond and Hallie Young; a son Wilbur Diamond Harlan; brothers, Diamond Young, and Gilbert Young, and sister Gladys Pherigo.
At 4’11” Margaret was small in stature but large in life. Her resilience, optimism, and kindness touched so many. She was devoted to her family, faith, and country. She was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Warrenton and the American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as President for many terms. In addition to being honored by lifetime membership in the Auxiliary, she received the Hardee’s Hometown Hero in St. Louis area award for patriotism. She will be truly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation for Margaret will be held Thursday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Pitman Funeral Home in Warrenton. Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Rich Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Warrenton City Cemetery, Warrenton, MO. Memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association or St. Croix Hospice in the care of Pitman Funeral Home.
