A man accused of pointing a gun at someone inside Walmart in Warrenton was arrested and charged with a felony.
Dylan L. Conaway, 23, of Truesdale, was arrested on Dec. 22 for a single charge of unlawful exhibiting of a weapon.
Warrenton police were called to the store just before 7:30 p.m. that day after a caller reported that a white male was pointing a gun at a black male in the men’s clothing section of the store, according to a document submitted to the court. When officers arrived, an employee at the entrance pointed them to Conaway, who was walking toward the officers.
Conaway was arrested and found to be in possession of a 9 mm handgun, which police allege was loaded with 13 rounds.
Police also allege that several witnesses in the store reported seeing Conaway threaten another man with the firearm. Police allege one witness quoted Conaway as stating, “Don’t walk up on me like that. Do you want me to pop a few in you right now?”
Surveillance video from the store showed Conaway pointing a gun at an unidentified black male, police reported.
Police allege that Conaway admitted to pointing the firearm at the other, unknown male. Conaway allegedly stated that the man was “mean mugging” him — glaring at him. The altercation occurred when the man purportedly approached Conaway with hands in pockets and asked, “Do you have a problem?”
Conaway was taken to the Warren County Jail and has remained there on the felony weapon charge. During a subsequent hearing on Dec. 29, Judge Richard Scheibe ruled that Conaway poses a danger to the community, and will therefore be held without bond.
Conaway had another bond review hearing scheduled for Jan. 5.
