Mabel Louise Brush, 95, of Tipton, passed away Wednesday, May 24, at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City.
Mabel was born on February 5, 1928, in Cappeln, the daughter of Alvin and Clara (Brandes) Wildschuetz, who preceded her in death. Mabel grew up on the family farm with her siblings, Arthur, Omar, and Hazel. She enjoyed gardening and reporting to her brothers about St. Louis Cardinals baseball games. On April 3, 1948, she married William Adam Brush in Cappeln. Bill and Mabel were married for 39 years. Mabel was a beloved mother and grandmother, homemaker, and also re-upholstered furniture for many years. She was an active member of Friedens United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Women’s Fellowship, and participated in the quilting group. She was an avid quilter and made all her children and grandchildren quilts. She loved to sew and embroider, and always had an eye for perfect corners and seams. She also canned most of her own vegetables, fruits, and jellies. She always had cookies in the cookie jar and had a particular fondness for Snickerdoodle cookies. She participated in the annual Christmas Cookie Walk in both Warrenton and Tipton. In 2005, she moved to Tipton and volunteered at the Tipton Nutrition Center, Tipton Ministerial Alliance, St. Andrew School, and Tipton Public School. She attended the First Christian Church while in Tipton. Mabel will be remembered for her perseverance, love of her family and friends, and faith. Mabel’s faith was important to her, as was evidenced by her daily study of God’s word and her servant’s heart. She leaves this legacy of faith within her family.
Mabel is survived by her four children, Dorothea Landowski (Mike) of Olympia, Washington; Allen Brush (Janel) of Ainsworth, Iowa; Lyndon Brush (Anne) of Hartsburg; and Carla Knipp (Dale) of Tipton; one sister-in-law, Marian Wildschuetz; 11 grandchildren Andrew (Rachel) Landowski, William (Melissa) Landowski, Matthew (Kelsey) Landowski, McKayla (Jared) Riter, Tori (Tony) Torres, Adam Brush, Amy (Ryan) Bontz, Amanda (Nathan) Jacober, Rosalee, Clara, and Elizabeth Knipp; and 6 great-grandchildren: Daniel, Cecilia, Jacob, Madison, and Helena Landowski, and Callie Bontz. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers (Arthur and Omar), one sister (Hazel), one sister-in-law (Doris), and one brother-in-law (Alvin).
