To the Editor,
We would like to send a special thanks to Warrenton, Wright City, Jonesburg and Hawk Point Fire Departments in their efforts to save our home Feb. 6 in the extreme temperatures along with snow and ice. Also to the EMTs onsite in keeping them safe if they were needed. They were awesome!
The firehouse in Pendleton has been closed and up for sale due to previous tax increases not passing. Our home was a complete loss that night. Maybe it wouldn’t have been if the firehouse was open in Pendleton. It took them 40 minutes to get to us.
We would like everyone to think about that and then take some time to look at your surroundings, your home, that first deer mount, great-grandpa’s gun hanging on the wall, your mom’s and grandmother’s quilts, antiques, mementos. All gone in a matter of minutes. Maybe if you do this, we can get the next tax increase on the ballot passed. What about that son, daughter, parents, or grandkids caught in an auto crash and trapped? We would want the firemen there and as many trucks and men as it takes. How about you? Did you know multiple fire trucks at a scene are there to not only protect us but the first responders at the fire or accident, too? What happens when there are two accidents or fires that occur and only one truck and three firemen?
These men and women need our support. They need additional funds to operate, and to train every paid or volunteer fireman, to provide the suits, boots, and equipment as per Missouri state law and guidelines.
Many of you have lived here all your life, as have I. I am ashamed of our beautiful community not supporting our fire department. Please educate your neighbor, your friends, and your workplace.
Let's get this tax passed this time and be proud of our community.
