Letter: Get out and vote

To the Editor,

To all of the citizens of the United States, get out to the election polls and vote. This was a freedom our military fought in wars for, to keep our democratic type government. Don’t let those who died on the battle fields die in vain. Their spirits are on our flag, the flag is a living thing. So don’t desecrate the flag in front of a veteran, or you will suffer the consequences for desecrating our comrades!

Some say democracy is free. Then tell that to those relatives of our fallen comrades, that those who gave their life didn’t mean a thing! We veterans said “All gave some, some gave all,” so our democracy will continue as a nation. To fulfill our unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as our forefathers had written in the Declaration of Independence back on July 4, 1776.

If you have an invalid excuse for not voting, then we voters do not want to hear your complaints, because you were too lazy to voice your opinion with your vote. I heard some very stupid complaints. “I couldn’t finish my 12 beers before the polls closed!” Or “I laid down for a nap and didn’t wake up in time before the polls closed!” Or “my vote won’t count anyways!” All votes count.

The only way our democratic government is going to work is if we stand united, otherwise our democracy will fail. People, you must think about who is the the government? The Constitution of the United States says we the people, for the people and by the people shall rule our way of life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, and justice for all. By electing our representatives and head of our government. We need to let our representatives know what we want them to do. Our representatives are supposed to rule on things for the majority of the people.

I believe our electoral college votes should be counted the right way in using voters’ votes. This would be when a state counts the votes, since all registered voters didn’t vote, then the percentage of who voted would be the percentage of electoral college votes. For example 60% of the voters, then electoral college would also be 60%. This way 19 states can not put a candidiate in office by electoral college votes over popular votes. So far there were four presidents elected by electoral college votes but not by popular votes. History shows who won this way. Two I saw elected this way, but I didn’t see the other two (I am no that old).
