Letter: Cost of Amendment 2 is too much

Posted

To The Editor,

On August 4, 2020 one of the issues submitted to the voters is Amendment 2. Please note this terminology. It is not a bill or a proposal, but an amendment to the state Constitution.

Presently, Missouri does provide health care to children under 19 and those in need. According to Sara Walsh, state representative, that coverage can be up to about 40 percent of our current state budget. If Amendment 2 passes, it will cover all able bodied and childless adults. Once a name is added to this, it cannot be removed. So if a person gets a job with health care, this person is still on the Missouri health care system. This drives up the cost for health care exponentially.

It is the cost of that amendment this is so frightening. Missouri has a balanced budget, but even now, because of COVID expenses, funding for schools, roads, conservation, etc., will have to be re-evaluated. If Amendment 2 is passed, the state would have to raise license fees, hunting license fees, real estate tax — any area that could generate funds to pay for this expensive amendment.

There are nine states that fell for the propaganda of this coverage. All have regretted it. If Missouri experiences the same sky rocket expense, it would take another vote to cancel this amendment. Please look for yourself at the following wed sites to judge for yourselves. They are www.noon2inAugust.com and missourilifepac.org. Both will give a full account. Please do not fall for the false promise of this amendment. Please vote no on Amendment 2.
