A large church fire forced the closure of North Service Road in Warrenton early Monday morning.
Information about the fire was not immediately available. Firefighters were still on scene shortly after 8 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters from multiple departments were on scene. According to a Facebook post from the Wright City Fire Protection District, it was a two alarm fire.
From the Warren County Emergency Management Agency, the following occurred:
At 4:54 AM the Warrenton Fire Protection District was dispatched to a smoke investigation in the area of State Route W and the North Service Road. Arriving in the area at 5:05 AM the crew observed smoke and a glow coming from the area of the Abundant Life Church.
Arriving on scene, the crew made initial entry through a rear door, encountered a stairwell, and followed it up to a closed door. Breaching the door, they observed with a thermal camera what appeared to be a living/sleeping area and conducted an immediate search of the room. Finding no one, they then made entry into the main area of the church, but were forced back by heavy heat and fire. They then exited the structure and attempted to make entry through a front doorway, to again be forced back by fire and heat. Within minutes of their initial arrival on scene the building was fully involved, with roof collapse occurring shortly after the crew exited the structure for the second time.
There are no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Crews from many neighboring jurisdictions assisted and kept the fire contained to the original structure, including —
